Contact Is Not Enough

contactHow are we going to do it? Will it be by the smoothness of our words or the preciseness of our grammar? Will it by the strength of our intellectual powers or the weight of our empirical evidence? Perhaps the visual image of our spiritual maturity and the distinctness of our apparel? How will we reach the people that we minister to from week to week? Contact is not enough.

To truly reach the hearts of those we minister to with life changing truths will demand a life changing experience for each one of us. We need to start with a new touch of faith.

We’re all familiar with the bible story of the woman with the serious illness that had plagued her for many years. Though she had consulted the best help of her day, her case was still hopeless; until she came into contact with Jesus.
Luke 8: 43-48

So it is with us. We can learn the best presentation techniques coupled with vast bible knowledge and still fail in our ability to experience the power of God in our lives. What it took for that woman’s healing is what it will take for us…a touch of faith

“To talk of religion in a casual way, to pray without soul hunger and living faith, avails nothing. A nominal faith in Christ, which accepts Him merely as the Saviour of the world, can never bring healing to the soul. The faith that is unto salvation is not a mere intellectual assent to the truth. He who waits for entire knowledge before he will exercise faith, cannot receive blessing from God. It is not enough to believe about Christ; we must believe in Him. The only faith that will benefit us is that which embraces Him as a personal Saviour; which appropriates His merits to ourselves. Many hold faith as an opinion. Saving faith is a transaction by which those who receive Christ join themselves in covenant relation with God. Genuine faith is life. A living faith means an increase of vigor, a confiding trust, by which the soul becomes a conquering power.” Desire of Ages 347

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
John 15: 4,5

Our usefulness is limitless if our connection is with He who has no limits. Today, let’s reach out by faith and connect with Christ anew and experience a life that produces much fruit.

This really “touches” on my personal prayer that my connection with Christ is so tight that I know there are no limits to how He can use me. “A new touch”. Thanks for your insight and more reassurance to what the connection is all about.

I’m sitting at my computer at work…I was just reminded that in God I have Grace, Mercy, Hope, the assurance of Eternal Life…Thank you…

This is a great ‘spiritual nugget’. It’s funny how God works, I was just praying to God today asking him to strengthen the connection so that I can really see his power in my life. Thanks for sharing.

The verse you referred to is one of my favorites and to bring it to mind brings tears to my eyes. All she had to do was touch the hem of His garment. AMAZING faith she had in knowing it would heal her. If I could attain such faith…
