Greatness on Display
By Curtis on Nov 7, 2008 in Motivational
We have witnessed in our generation, an event un-thought-of just a few years ago.
We have seen a man, with careful deliberation, wise planning and infectious optimism rise to a level of greatness that has no precedent in our country. Admirers and critics alike all acknowledge the historical triumph of our president-elect. From around the world millions have found a new source of hope that is sorely needed during these difficult times.
The core qualities of commitment, dedication, sacrifice and humility that we have seen tested time and time again throughout this election cycle have testified that the goodness in us is what people are hungering for. The longing for hope, sympathy and understanding is not confined to a particular race, age or creed. Our needs are more similar than the differences that divide us.
The enthusiasm on display by the ardent supporters proved key to bringing about one of the biggest events of our lifetime. People of all segments of society invested their time, talents and influence to help make this dream a reality.
If we, as Sabbath school teachers, could show similar enthusiasm and commitment to the cause of Christ, what a difference it would make. What if we discussed the cause of Christ for an equal amount of the time we discussed this election? What kind of difference could that make in our lives and in the lives of those we interact with?
What if we would spend a similar amount time that we spent learning about every aspect of our president-elect, learning about the King of kings? What kind of difference could that make in our lives?
What if our defense of our president-elect mirrored our defense of Christ and His mission? Are we as passionate and devoted to the kingdom of heaven as we are to the high offices of man?
I celebrate, with great enthusiasm, this historical event and even plan to attend the inauguration. But when everything is said and done, I want us to all attend that greatest celebration of all time and to all hear those words of approval “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matt. 25:21.
“Dear reader, God desires to use you in his service. There is a place for you to fill in this world. For no other purpose does he entrust men and women with talents. If you are faithful in filling the place he desires you to fill, he will work in your behalf, and you will see of the salvation of God.” E. G. White. AU Gleaner, September 16, 1903

Curtis,
Well said! I would go so far to say that there has been a kind of ‘just cause’ spiritual element to Obama’s run for President that many around the world have tapped into… even unknowingly!
I like and agree with your encouragement to us to show commitment to and enthusiasm for the cause of Christ. In so doing we also do our part in bringing fresh hope to a world in dire need of life fulfiling change. ‘Through Christ… Yes We Can!’

Couldn’t have been said better! I agree the same enthusiasm we have shown for this past election needs to be transferred to our enthusiasm and witness for the One who allowed President Elect Barack Obama to reach his potential. We have an even greater responsibility, as Christians, to show what happens when we, corporately, call on the name of Jesus. How many emails were sent asking for prayer for Obama? Practice makes perfect. So let’s continue to have that same “praying spirit” for a closeness with our Redeemer and true Chief!
Thanks Curtis and may God bless you and everyone who reads your blogs.
