You Can’t Give what You Don’t Have

To be a Sabbath School teacher, is to play one of the most vital roles today in the organized church. Every week men and women throughout this denomination stand before groups of people teaching the bible. Besides the pastor in the pulpit, Sabbath school teachers have more biblical involvement in the lives of the church members than any other group.

With this privilege comes a weighty responsibility that cannot be taken lightly. To know that we all will have to give an account of our words and actions one day should heighten our awareness of the seriousness of the role we play in this last day movement.

Whether we admit it or not, who we are the 6 other days of the week, will influence those we interact with on Sabbath during Sabbath School. One of the great principles of spiritual life is that we cannot give what we don’t have.

He who would confess Christ must have Christ abiding in him. He cannot communicate that which he has not received. The disciples might speak fluently on doctrines, they might repeat the words of Christ Himself; but unless they possessed Christlike meekness and love, they were not confessing Him. A spirit contrary to the spirit of Christ would deny Him, whatever the profession. Desire of Ages 355

Following the example of Christ in our daily lives will bring kindness to our words, compassion to our actions and nobility to our purposes. By trusting in God and not in ourselves we can allow Him to use us as conduits of eternal truths to those we stand before from week to week.

Although the responsibilities of a Sabbath School teacher are great, the privileges and rewards are equally great. To play a part in the spiritual growth of our class members is an opportunity that is priceless.

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:32

Brother Hall. Our Sabbath schools are dead, everywhere. What ever happened to training teachers to present lively, interesting and interactive presentations. It seems that the only person enjoying the class are the teachers.
It sure would be a great help if you can present your materials to all of the churches in Atlanta quickly. I love and enjoy Sabbath school and I go no matter how boring but now we’ve decided to church hop so that at least we are not bored with the same teacher week after week.
